“In the realm of waste management, incineration, waste-to-energy, or plastic-to-fuel technologies are not acceptable ways of dealing with plastic waste and cannot be considered environmentally sound approaches. These technologies are unsustainable and produce significant quantities of greenhouse gases, hazardous air pollutants, hazardous and highly toxic ash, and other residues”.
Jane Patton (Break Free From Plastic movement) presented her combined statement on behalf of the joint position of the Women, NGO, Children & Youth, Farmers, Trade Union & Workers, Indigenous Peoples, and Science & Technology major groups, during Item 4 -Barriers to combating marine litter and microplastics, including challenges related to resources in developing countries, held in Nairobi, at the UN Office, on 29th May 2018.
