In the months of September – December 2021, the Women’s Major Group held an important series “Until All of Us Are Free:” An Intersectional Feminist Fishbowl Series.
The series consisted of four monthly meetings where WMG members gathered to hear from other members and experts on LGBTQI+ communities’ rights, Indigenous Peoples’ rights, Black and Afro-descendant communities’ rights, and sex worker’s rights. Each of the sessions took a deep dive into root causes and systemic issues, key demands, and how the feminist movement can be in solidarity.
In a context of rising anti-rights movements and divisions in the global feminist movement, the Women’s Major Group stands by our core principles of intersectional feminism, collective liberation, and leaving no one behind. It is a crucial moment to truly reaffirm and build our capacity in understanding and speaking about key issues, especially regarding the rights of communities that are most marginalized within the feminist movement. Particularly, we hope this series helped members better understand how closely interconnected the root causes and struggles for gender justice, racial justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and sex workers’ rights are, and that none of us can be free until all of us are free. Importantly, the series also gathered suggestions for how the Women’s Major Group Secretariat, OPs, and members can better stand in solidarity and in support of those most marginalized within our global feminist movements.
