The Side Event will explore a series of Post-Paris activities Nigeria has undertaken as she makes a deviation from the business- as- usual development pathway. The implementation of the 2011 United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Environmental Assessment Report of the Ogoni-land Clean–up in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria is a case in point. UNEP the co-host of this event in its capacity as a development partner has provided the scientific basis for and continues to offer technical expertise as needed to help ensure a positive result in this process. Also demonstrates efforts being intensified towards revitalizing the shrinking Lake Chad Basin and the integrated management of its resources and facilitating regional peace, cooperation and security in the Basin areas thereby impacting on livelihood, the social and economic well-being of an estimated 5 million people covering Nigeria, Niger, Cameroun, and Chad.
