Given the scope and ambition of the SDGs, it is clear that governments alone cannot achieve the agenda. They must also facilitate the participation of all sectors of society, including civil society organization (CSOs), the private sector and the general public at the local level.
The first National Conference on Sustainable Development Goals, with the focus on localizing the SDGs in Nigeria: the role of CSOs and other key actors was held in Abuja, Nigeria on 1st August 2018. WMG member Caroline Usikpedo Omoniye (NDWPD) gave a welcome remark at the first session. WMG Africa Regional OP Priscilla Achakpa (WEP) gave a keynote address on problems facing Nigeria, and how activating women, the youth, and people with disabilities are integral to Leaving No One Behind. John Baaki (WEP) represented the WMG on a panel, pointing out the similarities between Goal number 2 of Agenda 2063 and SDG 8 and 9, and that the importance of aligning work to achieving them.
